| Hahaha, "Munitions: Classified" How about, "Munitions: None". SR-71s don't carry weapons. They don't have pylons on the wings for fuselage because the parasitic drag at high speed would rip them off and compromise the aerodynamic integrity. Then the entire airframe would break apart. They don't have weapon bays either. You guys should really learn a thing or two about the aircraft you use. I'm gonna start charging you for all these lessons.

If the SR-71 was going full speed, and was remote controlled, what would happen if the controller dove at a 20 degree angle down form 70,000 Feet, then at 20,000 Feet pulled back on the stick (or yoke) as far as they could ? I want very detailed description of what might happen, lol. Also, if it hit a bird in the windshield/canopy (the glass window in the front, if it is even glass), at such speed. Can you answer a detailed description of that one also ? | |

| I'll answer this one. The flight controls would become none responsive at that speed. Not because they wouldn't work, but because the aircraft is exceeding terminal velocity and both the high pressure and low pressure airflow would separate from both sides of the airfoil causing a complete lack of lift. The aircraft would simply dive into the ground. This happened a lot to fighters like Zeros, BF-109s, and F-86s as they approached the sound barrier in a high speed dive. Many pilots died. Air foils were redefined from leading edge to trailing edge in terms of shape and aspect and thus delta wings were born and used to sustain supersonic flight up to Mach 2. However, the control surfaces still have little effect beyond Mach 2 and are pretty much useless above Mach 2.5. Modern U.S. hypersonic aircraft, fighters, ICBMs, and cruise missiles rely on trust vectoring to steer the entire aircraft as the control surfaces are pretty much shit above Mach 2.5. The F-22 was outfitted with trust vectoring not just to improve maneuverability at low speeds, but controlability at high speeds. The F-22 can clear Mach 2.25, and may believe it can reach Mach 2.5+ (but the max speed and engine trust are still classified). The F-15 can exceed Mach 2.5, but it can only go in a straight line at these speeds. The difference between the two is the F-22 can still maneuver. I hope this has been helpful.
